BC Conservation Officers are in the area near Minnekhada Regional Park searching for a bear that was reportedly hit with a crossbow Wednesday night.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Environment, the conservation officer service is investigating an incident involving a black bear on a rural blueberry farm next to Minnekhada Regional Park in Coquitlam.

Conservation Officers and Coquitlam RCMP responded to a report Wednesday at approximately 8:30 p.m. of individuals allegedly trespassing on the property and shooting a bear with a crossbow.

Conservation Officers have confirmed a bear has been shot and are on site searching for it, which includes the use of a drone.

Conservation Officers are continuing their investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) hotline at 1-877-952-7277.

While shocking, this is not the first time this has happened.

Reports of bears being shot with a crossbow in Coquitlam prompted Port Coquitlam to ban crossbows in its firearms regulations in 2011.

The Tri-City News will update as more information becomes available.
