New Port Moody business to 'lift' spirits of those in need at grand opening

The Lift Ski and Board on Murray Street is collecting donations for SHARE Family and Community Services this weekend.

Nicole and Jon Wilson are set to get Port Moody residents ready for the slopes.

But before doing so, the couple is wanting to set an example for the community by helping others who may have not the chance to have a warm meal this winter.

The Lift Ski and Board shop is set to celebrate its grand opening on Saturday (Nov. 26) and is encouraging visitors to make a donation while shopping for the equipment they need to carve local mountains.

In exchange for a hot dog lunch at the business — located at 2-3011 Murray St. — all donations, cash or non-perishables, are set to go to SHARE Family and Community Services to help its food bank and support programs.

The Wilsons are hoping their new family-oriented business can be the go-to spot for parents looking to share their love of the mountains with their children.

"My husband and I are excited about the opportunity to share his lifelong dream of business ownership with our community," said Nicole in an email to the Tri-City News about the grand opening event.

"Skiing as a family is one of our most treasured moments together," the couple added in a description on its business website.

"When there is no snow on the hill, you can still find us on the mountain participating in a variety of activities including: camping, running, hiking, or downhill mountain biking."

The Lift is offering a selection of ski and snowboard equipment and apparel, as well as pro shop services like binding, sharpening and waxing.

Its grand opening is scheduled for tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Interested residents are asked to consider donating one of the following to SHARE:

  • Cooking oil (1L or less)
  • Juice or juice boxes (no sugar added, 1 L or less)
  • Granola bars, cookies or crackers
  • Canned or dried lentils and beans (900g or less)
  • Rice (900g or less)
  • Canned meats
  • Tomato sauce or tomato paste
  • Canned pasta with sauce
  • Honey, tahini or jam (500g or less)
