New learning spaces now open at Coquitlam's two library branches

The Discovery Lab is the latest addition to the City Centre branch of the Coquitlam Public Library.

The Discovery Lab is the latest addition to the City Centre branch of the Coquitlam Public Library.

Last Saturday, Dec. 9, library officials marked the official opening of the lab, a space to learn about the library’s lendable technology offerings, as well as to bolster STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) skills at the branch (1169 Pinetree Way).

The Discovery Lab comes a month after the library, as well as Coquitlam–Burke Mountain MLA Fin Donnelly and Mayor Richard Stewart opened a lounge near the main entrance of the Poirier branch (575 Poirier St.).

That specially designed space is filled with furniture, tabletop games and puzzles.

“The Library Lounge is currently open to the public and we have a lot of great programming planned for 2024 that will allow you to unplug and engage with friends, both old and new,” library spokesperson Samantha Wink said in a news release.

In January 2024, the branch will host an Introduction to Dungeons and Dragons program.
