A new café is bringing an Italian flair to Coquitlam's historic francophone neighbourhood.
Caffe Reggio has announced it will open soon at 930 Brunette Ave. in the "heart of Maillardville."
As of Thursday (July 20), the windows are still covered in paper, but the menu has been posted on signage and on social media.
The Tri-City News was informed Caffe Reggio will hopefully open in about three weeks, and the public should keep an eye out for updates on Instagram and Facebook.
The owners, Matteo Belmonte and Bruno Papa, will be opening the new eatery once everything is ready to go.
Papa previously owned a café in Kitsilano, which he recently sold.
The duo are teaming up to bring the new lunch and coffee shop to Maillardville, and Belmonte hopes it will add to the local vibe.
"The area needs something like this and the area is growing, which is great," he told the Tri-City News.
When open, the new business will offer hearty lunch and snacks including:
- organic fair trade coffee
- espresso-based drinks
- paninis/sandwiches
- Italian gelato
- soups
The Maillardvile panini shop and café will be a terrific addition to the area, where at least one new tower, Loma, is opening soon and another is slated for construction at the corner of Lougheed Highway and Blue Mountain Street. Meanwhile, another condo called The Bastille, offering French-inspired architecture, is being built further east at 209 LeBleu St.
However, this new Coquitlam café is not to be confused with the Caffe Reggio, in Greenwich, Village, New York, one of the city's oldest, and featured in films, including the 1971 crime action thriller Shaft.
