It appears Port Moody is getting closer to a plateau very few B.C. communities have reached in the vaccination stage of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eligible middle-aged residents — 50 years and older — living in the City of the Arts, as well as Anmore and Belcarra, are still electing to receive a booster dose against the virus as rates are slowly increasing week after week.
As of today (June 29), the sub-region is on the edge of becoming the first in Fraser Health to reach the 80 per cent triple-vaccination threshold.
The age category in Port Moody currently sits at 79 per cent, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control's (BCCDC) latest report — dated back to June 19, 2022.
That's also tied with Delta and Pitt Meadows for the third-highest rate in all of B.C.; Victoria at 83 per cent and North Vancouver at 81 per cent.
As a whole, the Tri-Cities recently surpassed the 75 per cent average mark for booster jabs among those above 50.
Broken down, middle-aged Port Coquitlam residents are also in pursuit of an 80 per cent three-dose rate with a recent uptick to 77 per cent.
In Coquitlam, eligible residents in the same age group are in the middle of the Fraser Health pack at 75 per cent.

Vaccine clinic
Meanwhile, there's still one Fraser Health-led clinic in the region for those still looking to receive a vaccine against COVID-19.
Coquitlam has a multi-vaccination operation in the Poirier Admin Building (640 Poirier St.) and is accepting bookings for all ages for a variety of vaccines available.
The clinic is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but will be closed on Friday (July 1) for the Canada Day statutory holiday.
At the end of May, Fraser Health closed its drive-thru clinic at Coquitlam Central SkyTrain Station to align with the current demand for a dose against the virus.
Parents and guardians wishing to get their child protected from COVID-19 and other diseases can also come to the clinic.
This includes:
- COVID-19 vaccine
- For eligible children and adolescents aged five and older
- Tdap-IPV vaccine
- Protects against tetanus diphtheria, whooping cough and polio
- MMRV vaccine
- Protects against measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox
Before receiving a dose against COVID-19, Tri-City residents are encouraged to register via B.C.'s GetVaccinated online portal or call 1-833-838-2323.
