Metro Vancouver gas prices soared over the $2 per litre mark again over the long weekend.
On Monday (April 18) morning, many outlets across the Lower Mainland were selling gas for over $2 per litre. In fact, according to GasBuddy.com, many stations in the area were charging as much as 203.9 cents a litre.
As of Monday afternoon, several outlets in the City of Vancouver are selling gas for under 198.9 cents per litre, according to the fuel price comparison platform. The lowest price, at 194.9 cents per litre, is rare, but can be spotted at places like the Husky at 18398 Fraser Hwy.
Metro Vancouver residents were previously shocked when gas prices smashed the record high on March 4, surpassing the $2 per litre mark for the first time.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.com, tells Vancouver Is Awesome that prices could continue to climb this week in the Lower Mainland.
"I do expect prices could rise a few cents per litre this week on the heels of oil prices rising $14/barrel from a week ago, but the timing isn't always reliable," he explains.
"Beyond that, there are many wildcards in regards to where we could go in the future, including possible EU sanctions on Russian oil, Covid in China, just to name a few."

Uber increases costs
In March, Uber announced it was increasing prices to help drivers and delivery people due to the surging cost of gas.
Rideshare riders now pay a $0.50 surcharge on every ride and, on Uber Eats where trips are shorter, consumer fees were adjusted to cover the equivalent of a $0.35 surcharge on every delivery.
Uber stated that 100 per cent of its new surcharge will "go directly to drivers and delivery people" and is temporary. It will be in place for "at least 60 days" as the company monitors gas prices.
