A man was killed in a shooting in Port Coquitlam early this morning (June 30).
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has since taken lead on the case and are now turning to the public for help.
Coquitlam RCMP found the victim on 2700-block Davies Avenue — east of Westwood Street — after responding to reports of a shooting around 1 a.m. today.
Officers have secured the area, and no other details have been released.
Witness statements and/or dashcam footage are now sought by police in hopes of moving the investigation forward.
2021 drug raid
The site of the shooting is near a notorious park where many drug dealings took place and was a hot spot for RCMP.
Fox Park is located up the road from where this morning's incident took place.
Early last year, Coquitlam RCMP conducted a raid at two condominiums resulting from a months-ling investigation into several suspects.
During the week of Jan. 18, 2021, the raids revealed suspected drugs, about $100,000 in cash and four vehicles totalling approximately $450,000.
Three people were arrested as a result of the search; two women aged 59 and 26 and a 37-year-old man.
The investigation began in the fall of 2020, when Coquitlam RCMP’s uniform crime reduction unit (UCRU) received several complaints of drug dealing in the park.
"The community of Port Coquitlam expressed concerns about the safety of Fox Park, and police formulated a plan, took action, executed search warrants and made arrests to make the park a safer place," Const. Deanna Law stated in an earlier news release about the raids.
Anyone with more information about the shooting, or video footage from the scene, is urged to call IHIT at 1-877-551-4448 or email [email protected].
