A tasty plate of fish and chips at a Port Moody restaurant will help feed local families in need this holiday season.
Staff at Float30 restaurant at Reed Point Marina are donating their time as well as proceeds from a limited menu being offered on Dec. 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., to the SHARE food bank.
The special lunch menu includes fish and chips, Float30’s signature smash burger, chicken strips and its classic BLT sandwich.
Float30 opened in the spring of 2022, taking over the space at the entrance to the marina that had been occupied by Willy’s Galley the previous five years.
The restaurant has since gained a wide reputation on social media as a hidden gem renowned for its waterfront view with expansive vistas of Burrard Inlet and Port Moody’s north shore from its small outdoor patio, as well its seafood menu that includes fresh ling cod from Haida Gwaii, Pacific-caught red snapper, Salt Spring mussels and Steelhead trout from the Fraser River.
It also offers a seafood boil with a homemade Cajun butter sauce that one Yelp reviewer said "was to die for."
SHARE’s food bank, that is based in Port Moody but operates weekly distribution centres in all three of the Tri-Cities, recently received $77,000 from the provincial government to help it meet the increasing demand for its services.
Claire MacLean, SHARE’s CEO, said the food bank currently helps more than 5,000 families every month.
"This includes seniors on fixed incomes, refugee families weighed down with expenses, single mothers providing for their children and families who just can’t earn enough to keep up with the cost of living," she said.
Float30 is located at 850 Reed Point Way, just off the Barnet Highway.
