From archery and ringette to rugby and parasports!
Nearly two dozen Coquitlam organizations are scheduled to set up at a free event in Town Centre Park later this month to allow residents to see how they could potentially get involved in local sports.
The city's annual Sports Fair was cancelled in 2020 due to restrictions at the time during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a release, parks, recreation and culture manager Kathleen Reinheimer says it's part of Coquitlam's Spotlight on Sport initiative and meant to showcase 21 associations to those "who want to try out new sports, find out what local sports groups have to offer, and discover fun ways to stay active."
The locally based groups are set to include (in alphabetical order):
- BC Aquasonics
- Blind Sports BC
- Burke Mountain Archers
- City of Coquitlam Park Spark
- Coquitlam Ducks Volleyball
- Coquitlam Lions Water Polo
- Coquitlam Metro Ford Soccer Club
- Coquitlam Minor Football Association
- Coquitlam Minor Softball Association
- Coquitlam Moody Ringette Association
- Coquitlam Moody Minor Baseball Association
- Coquitlam Tennis Club (CTC)
- Dogwood 50+ Roller/Inline Skaters
- Port Moody Curling Club
- RumbleFish Underwater Hockey Club
- Sport Ability BC
- TORCA — Tri-Cities Off Road Cycling Association
- Tri-Cities Female Ice Hockey Association
- Tri-City Field Hockey Association
- United Rugby Club
- Windies Cricket Club
Reinheimer explains each of the above will have either a booth, try-it station and free slushies at Town Centre Park's North Field #6.
Coquitlam's Sports Fair will take place on Aug. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. rain or shine.
