Letter: We need a walkable grocery store in Port Moody

A letter writer believes Bosa Foods on St. Johns Street can lead to other for the block, including a crossing light.

Re: Where's the fruit and veg? Port Moody council asks about new project that includes Bosa Foods (Nov. 23, 2023)

Yes, I am in favour of the Bosa Foods grocery store.

My 85-year-old mother lives at Perry’s Mew townhouses (for 35 years), which is a block away and desperately needs a walkable grocery store.

In December 2020, after getting off a bus with food, she was run over by a speeding SUV on St. Johns Street.

There are no cross walks at St. Johns and Elgin Street. It is impossible to cross and I myself have had several close calls despite waiting 10 minutes to cross.

People feel very entitled to speed and will not stop for a pedestrian.

Having Bosa on the south side will immensely help my mother access food without harm.

More crossing lights, more police ticketing and a grocery store are desperately needed.
