Re: War of words breaks out over Port Moody's largest redevelopment project — just ahead of its public hearing (tricitynews.com, Sept. 29, 2023)
Whatever the details of the math around the cost of parking stalls versus affordable units, the fact remains that the proposed Coronation Park development seems significantly over-parked when compared to emerging best practices across North America.
Numerous cities are removing minimum parking requirements which reduces the cost of the units to buyers, whether "affordable" or market.
It also reduces the embodied carbon in the development as less concrete and other materials are used.
This development is as close to a rapid transit station as you can get, and is surrounded by other amenities including the recreation centre, library, grocery store and more.
It is the perfect location for a "car-light" or car-free development and would also reduce the anxiety of existing residents over increased congestion.
