Letter: Petty start to Port Moody mayor's term

Acknowledgement by Mayor Lahti of all, rather than some, former councillors would have provided a more collegial and collaborative start to her term, this Port Moody letter writer states.

Meghan Lahti is the new mayor of Port Moody.

The Editor:

Mayor Meghan Lahti started her term as mayor, during Tuesday’s (Nov. 1) opening council meeting, acknowledging the services and presenting civic plaques to outgoing mayor Rob Vagramov, despite their political differences, and to retiring councillor Zoe Royer.

Regrettably, she then entirely ignored, by mention or plaque, acknowledging the service of former councillor Hunter Madsen, who was sitting in the front row of the auditorium, and her mayoral opponent and former councillor Steve Milani.

Despite their political differences, this pointed and petty snub was both unprofessional and disheartening.

Her behaviour contrasted sharply with the generosity shown by Coun. Amy Lubik, who began her brief statement acknowledging the courtesy of council candidate Dave Stuart during the uncertain period that put her, rather than him, on the council, in the end by chance.

Acknowledgement by Mayor Lahti of all, rather than some, former councillors would have provided a more collegial and collaborative start to her term.
