Letter: Metro Vancouver projects should be 'adequately managed'

A Port Coquitlam letter writer believes the Metro Vancouver mayors that attended an infrastructure conference should be open on what they learned.

The Editor:

We should all be interested in how the mayor of Port Coquitlam and three other Metro mayors (Anmore, Burnaby and Richmond), who attended a conference in Europe on large scale infrastructure projects, will apply their newly-gained knowledge when assessing future Metro Vancouver projects like the North Shore water treatment plant that's over budget by more than $3 billion.

They must provide a summary of the content of this conference and specifically what they will now do differently going forward.

We shouldn't expect politicians to be able to oversee any aspect of these mega projects, but we can expect them to be familiar with the processes needed to hire the best, most experienced and qualified project management team, to protect citizen interests.

If they cannot find the necessary calibre of talent, then they need the courage to say so and not undertake any project that cannot be adequately managed.
