Letter: I'll soon have to pay to park on the Port Moody streets I paid taxes on

This letter writer believes Port Moody should follow Port Coquitlam's example when it comes to parking in the community.

Free parking in popular Port Moody locations like Rocky Point Park will likely end by next summer.

Re: Pay parking has arrived in Port Moody. Here's when, where and how much (Aug. 19, 2024)

I see Port Moody city council has instituted pay parking (coming into effect tomorrow, Sept. 16).

Not content with higher than average property taxes, this council is finding another way to collect money from its residents.

After 30 years of paying taxes to Port Moody, I now have to pay to park on the streets I paid for to use the parks I paid for.

I even will have to pay to shop at businesses in parts of the city.

I note that Port Coquitlam is the only city in the Tri-Cities that does not have pay parking.

Good on Mayor Brad West and PoCo council; I hope it stays that way for their residents and local businesses.
