Letter: Homeownership is earned, especially in Port Moody

Writer who says they've lived in the region since they were six years old believes there are enough people to build more infrastructure in the region.

The Editor:

I have to wholeheartedly disagree with the view on the idea of not enough people here to build more infrastructure!

I have lived in the Port Moody area since I was six years old. I am now a senior citizen. You do the math.

I have witnessed unbelievable growth in the Tri-Cities during this time. I grew up in what one would call a sleepy little town where everyone knew their neighbour.

Today, it is hardly recognizable.

The sad part is, it grew in mega numbers of people converging in this area without a thought to infrastructure, such as roads, parking, etc.

The Tri-City area is a jungle of high rises, condos, apartments and single-family homes. Unfortunately, nothing was put in place to move these people from 'A' to 'B.'

The congestion on every main and side road is unbelievable. Anyone who drives to Vancouver for work can attest to the frustration of long lineups and hours in the car. Why? Lack of infrastructure, ie. ROADS!

Now, I have to address the issue about landowner “Entitlement”! Really? This is absolutely ridiculous!

The comment of our society fast becoming an inheriting one instead of an earning one is obviously to undermine anyone who has a home or property.

I’m sure there is a small percentage of people inheriting homes, but I assure you there are far more who have given their lifetime of hard work to ultimately reach their goal of having a home paid for.

We have all earned that RIGHT! Yes EARNED! So all those people up in arms about how unfair it is that they don’t have what someone else has, my answer to that is, “Go out and earn it!”

I’m tired of individuals spouting off about how they think are society should be. In particular, those who have lived here for a very short time, less than a few years, making comments on how we should live, how we better change this or that because they have taken it upon themselves to be judge and juror.

I think not! I am a very fair and open-minded person. I believe everyone should be able to live a decent life, but I am tired of the nonsense jammed down our throats every time we turn around.

In short, I wish everybody well and if you want something, you must EARN it and not take it away from others who worked so hard to get it.
