Kia to United Blvd.

A car dealership will soon operate among the furniture retailers, warehouses, industrial shops - and casino - on Coquitlam's United Boulevard.

Following a public hearing Monday, city council unanimously approved a bid from Kia West to rezone 1751 and 1991 United Blvd. - a site that has been vacant since Surfwood Supplies left two years ago.

Last year, Kia West told council it was outgrowing its space on Lougheed Highway in Maillardville and wanted the land near the Hard Rock Casino.

The M8 zoning in Pacific Reach Business Park doesn't allow car dealerships but council was willing to make an exception to bring more retail business to the corridor. Kia West's head office, currently on Hartley Avenue, will also move to the car dealership lot.
