Jokers Canada returns to the Tri-Cities next month with four comedic shows in each of the three cities.
Founder Aaron Arya has lined up a slew of comics to perform on:
- March 1
- Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr., Port Moody)
- 7 p.m.
- March 23
- Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam)
- 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
- March 28
- Terry Fox Theatre (1260 Riverwood Gate, Port Coquitlam)
- 7 p.m.
The bookings come after two sold-out shows on Jan. 26 in Port Moody that featured the likes of Alex Mackenzie, Julie Kim, Niki Mohrdar and JUNO Award-winner Jacob Samuel.
And, on Feb. 3, Jokers Canada played to a sold-out audience at the Terry Fox Theatre — its biggest show to date.
Arya told the Tri-City News he’s especially pleased to be diving into Coquitlam for the first time.
“There’s a big demand for comedy in the Tri-Cities,” he said.
“At first, I thought the suburbs might be annual events, but now we’re looking at heading out more frequently.”
Started in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, Jokers Canada launched at The Roxy Theatre in Vancouver (the upcoming Valentine’s show is sold out).
Its other regular venues around Metro Vancouver include the BMO Theatre in Olympic Village in Vancouver, the Grand Villa Casino and Rec Room in Burnaby and the Presentation House Theatre in North Vancouver.
Arya said he’s now looking at theatres in different cities to spread the laughs.
For the “comedy classics” — designed for weekend crowds in the theatres — Arya said he draws a strong line-up of comics, whose names are typically concealed until closer to the show dates. The events are intended to bring the community together, he said.
“People want to sit back, relax and have some fun,” he said. “And comedy is a great way to bring joy to people’s lives.”
