Honouring women or past, present and future.
That's the goal of the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce (TCCC) for International Women's Day (IWD) 2023 as it's gearing up to host another brunch event this spring to celebrate the accomplishments of local female entrepreneurs.
The theme this year is embracing gender equity, which the regional organization believes should be part of every society's DNA.
"Equity isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a must-have," reads the TCCC event's description.
"We can all challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination, draw attention to bias, and seek out inclusion. Collective activism is what drives change."
More than 1,000 organizations across Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra are represented by the TCCC.
The chamber recently announced 80 companies and non-profits received nominations for its 2023 business excellence awards, many of which are run by local women.
The IWD 2023 is set to add to the accolades by honouring the economic, political and social impacts of women in business.
"When we embrace equity, we embrace diversity, and we embrace inclusion. We embrace equity to forge harmony and unity, and to help drive success for all. Equality is the goal, and equity is the means to get there. Through equity, we can reach equality."
Dozens of local residents and community members attended the 2022 brunch.
Registration to participate in this year's three-hour event is officially open. Details about guest speakers, presentations and panels are set to be announced at a later date.
The IWD 2023 brunch is scheduled to take place on March 8 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club.
