If you live or work in Anmore, or you’re even just visiting, and a major earthquake hits or a wildfire sparks, there’s now an app for that.
The village has signed on to Alertable, a free public alerting app that sends users important information about emergencies within the community or that could affect it, such as earthquakes, floods or a wildfire. It can also advise about road closures and incidents, weather events like snowfall warnings and even emergency-related community information sessions.
“Emergency preparedness is a fundamental aspect of our community safety initiatives,” said Anmore Mayor John McEwen in a news release.
“Implementing a public alerting system like Alertable equips us with a vital tool to effectively communicate with our residents and visitors.”
Users can customize the app to receive the information on their mobile or home phone, by text or through the app itself. It can also be configured for specific types of alerts.
As well, the app can advise on evacuation orders, emergency support locations and other pertinent information about threats to public safety. Its settings can even be adjusted to override the silent mode of your device.
Vancouver implemented Alertable in 2021. Burnaby and Victoria are among other B.C. communities that also use the app.
