Here's when Coquitlam's City Centre Aquatic Complex will be shut for maintenance

Each year, Coquitlam takes time to deep clean the gym and pool — and this year, the CCAC change rooms are getting new lockers.

One of Coquitlam's most important community facilities is shutting down for the month of September for scheduled maintenance.

According to a news release, the City Centre Aquatic Complex (CCAC) — located at 1210 Pinetree Way — will undergo its annual maintenance closure from Sept. 5 to Oct. 1, reopening on Oct. 2.

"The closure is necessary for maintenance and cleaning that cannot be completed while the facility is open, and ensures a safe environment for staff and the public, reduces the likelihood of equipment failures and extends the life of city assets," said Coquitlam spokesperson Michael Fox.

Annual maintenance tasks include:

  • Draining the pools and deep-cleaning the tanks;
  • Deep cleaning the fitness centres and equipment, lockers, change rooms, showers, lifejackets and pool toys;
  • Regrouting tiles and touching up paint; and
  • Inspecting and servicing mechanical systems and other equipment.

New lockers

As well, CCAC users will notice new lockers in the change rooms among the maintenance updates when the facility reopens in October.

In addition to the quarter lockers, users can now use their ONE PASS card for the new ones, which will be free to use and patrons must return the quarter or ONE PASS card after each use.

To get started, interested visitors are asked to see the CCAC front desk or lifeguard to get a ONE PASS card hole-punched or pick up a blank card.

What you can expect

The fitness centre at CCAC will be closed Sept. 5 to Sept. 11, reopening on Sept. 12.

From Sept. 12 to Oct. 1, the gym hours will be Monday to Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Saturday, 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and closed on Sundays.

The front desk will close 30-minutes before the gym closes.

As for the pool, guests can swim in Coquitlam at Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (PSLC) at 633 Poirier St.

The fitness centre at PSLC will also be open for drop-in fitness classes and weight room access.

Outdoor swimming options are also available at Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool (2689 Guildford Way) until Oct. 22.

You can visit the outdoor pools and spray parks page of the City of Coquitlam website for hours and more details.
