Homeowners in Port Moody can expect to pay $86 more for utilities next year.
Paul Rockwood, the city's general manager of finance and technology, told a meeting of council's finance committee last Tuesday, Nov. 21, the provisional utility charge for single-family homes in the city will increase to $1,681 while owners of townhouses will pay slightly less — $1,615.
The fee for condo owners will be $1,277 and for secondary suites it will $1,113.
The rates include a regional levy for drainage that is paid through property taxes; it is expected to go up by about five dollars to $119 per average household.
Overall, the boost equates to 5.39 per cent over 2023.
"We're still reasonably priced," Rockwood said, adding while rates for the coming year still haven’t been set in neighbouring communities, Port Moody compares favourably with cities like Coquitlam and Surrey.
The proposed fees will be considered for final adoption by council tomorrow, Nov. 28.
