Stories from Tri-City News headlines of decades past is a recurring feature as the publication marks its 40th anniversary in 2024.
Lightning really did strike twice for Doris Buxton.
The Port Coquitlam woman was jolted from her bed in the middle of a summer’s night in 1993 when a bolt of lightning ripped through her home on Eastern Drive.
Buxton told the Tri-City News the bolt travelled through the open bedroom window, across the ceiling and tipped a smoke alarm before exiting another window.
But other than an unusual lingering odour of smoke, there was no damage.
Remarkably, it wasn’t Buxton’s first encounter with lightning.
Two years earlier, she was hit by a bolt while walking in the Citadel Heights neighbourhood.
She said the electrical blast left her with a strange, tingling sensation all over her body.
But Buxton’s latest experience pondering what could be.
“Now, if I could just win the lottery twice,” she said.
