This month, Tri-City News asked high school valedictorians in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody to describe what it's like to graduate in the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic — and without an official ceremony.
Here's what Abigail Comeau of Pinetree secondary wrote:
"First of all, congratulations to all of the grads of 2021!
We made it through one of the hardest years, but we persevered, and you should be so proud!
As a grad student myself I know first-hand that this year was definitely not what we were expecting.
There are ways to look at this COVID season negatively, but the positives exceed.
Having grad during a pandemic has taught us so much more than a normal year would have.
We have learned to work through the unknown which will help us tremendously in our upcoming post secondary years.
We have learned to cherish the time and build relationships with our family and friends.
These are the relationships that are so important and will help us get through any other obstacles that come our way.
Make the best out of what you have and good luck next year!"
