Three Tri-City actors are cast in a Tony award-winning musical that runs over the holiday season, including New Year’s Eve.
Port Moody's Danica Kobayashi plays Gabrielle/dance captain in Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, a Gateway Theatre production that suitable for all ages.
Alyson Vance and Holly Bradbury from Port Coquitlam are in the ensemble.
The musical is stage managed by Philomena Sondergaard of Port Moody with choreography from Nicol Spinola, a dance instructor in Coquitlam; Port Moody native Jennifer Stewart is the co-set and props designer.
Starring Ali Watson is Ella with Kamyar Pazandeh as Prince Topher, Cinderella is an updated story that was adapted for the stage.
A decade ago, it won nine Tony award nominations — clinching three prizes — when it opened on Broadway.
"Not only does it have a sweeping score, but this beloved fairy tale has also been beautifully contemporized for the stage with a new focus on female empowerment and resiliency," said Barbara Tomasic, Gateway Theatre's artistic programs director, in a news release.
Tickets for Cinderella start at $40 ($25 for kids ages 0 to 12). It runs Dec. 14 to 31, 2023, at the Gateway Theatre in Richmond (6500 Gilbert Rd.) with shows at 1 and 7:30 p.m.
