Construction work that started a year ago along Coquitlam’s Lougheed Highway and disrupted traffic is expected to wrap up soon.
City staff say the contractor for the Lougheed Highway bridge deck replacement project — north of Dewdney Trunk Road — has had ongoing concrete supply issues.
For several weeks, both travel lanes have been open in both directions while the work is being concluded.
But that’s about to end — again.
What’s left is the final concrete pour, which includes the centre median of the bridge deck, as well as the multi-use pathway and parapet on the eastern side of the bridge, Chad Braley, Coquitlam’s manger of capital projects and inspections, told the Tri-City News.
And once the concrete has cured, the railings will be installed.
“Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction during the concrete pour, but will be opened up to full capacity once complete,” Braley said.
“We are disappointed with how long this project has taken, but are optimistic that the contractor will complete the remaining work by the end of May.”
Coquitlam and TransLink are spending $2.4 million to replace the concrete deck of the 49-year-old structure.
The project, which is being handled by Klondike Infrastructure Ltd., started on May 8, 2023.
