Two pop-up garden markets have opened up in Coquitlam and Port Moody in time for the spring planting season.
The markets offer flowers, vegetables, succulents, grasses, seeds, garden supplies, potted plants and baskets to get your yard or patio in top shape for summer.
The Tri-Cities pop-up garden markets are among eight seasonal locations operated by Urban Roots Garden Market, which has been producing locally grown plants and vegetables since 1981.
Here are the hours and locations of two local markets:
Coquitlam Centre
- 1150 The High St.
- Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Port Moody
- 2421 Clarke St.
- Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Learn how to grow tomatoes
In Coquitlam, the pop-up is also offering a class on how to select the best tomato plants for a balcony or backyard.
The workshop will take place April 30 at the Coquitlam Urban Roots Garden Market location where Carissa Kasper from Seed and Nourish will teach participants the do's and don't's of How to Grow the Perfect Tomato Plant.
You will learn how to:
- Choose the right variety for your space and palette
- Enhance flavour and prevent pests with companion planting
- Drought-proof your plants
- Prune for maximum production
- Prevent common problems like cracking and blossom end rot
Additionally, participants will learn to make a simple seed bomb with their kids to plant flowers anywhere.
