Coquitlam mountain biker Stan Yee injured his spine in a fall on Mt. Seymour on Sept. 14 and is now trying to regain mobility in his legs and arms.

A Coquitlam mountain biker is making progress in his recovery from a horrific accident on Mt. Seymour last month.

But whether Stan Yee ever rides again — let alone walks — is still to be determined.

According to a GoFundMe page started to help Yee get back on his feet — physically and financially — the avid mountain biker was cycling the John Deer trail on Mt. Seymour with seven friends on Sept. 14 when he fell while trying to navigate a wooden obstacle.

Since the campaign was launched on Oct. 20, it’s raised more than $53,000 of its $100,000 goal, as of this publication, Oct. 24.

The money will be used to support Yee’s family during his recovery as well as help pay for further physiotherapy and renovations needed to his home to accommodate his mobility requirements.

Yee injured his C5 vertebrae and needed to be transported back down the mountain by North Vancouver Fire Rescue and transported to Lions Gate Hospital by ambulance.

There, doctors determined he needed immediate surgery at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH).

Yee has since been transferred to the GF Strong rehabilitation facility where he’s regained some mobility to his arms and wrists, in addition to limited movement with his head and shoulders.

“He is making incremental improvements,” said an update on the fundraising page.

“We are hoping that the movement will come back into his fingers and hands soon, and then everything below that.”

“It is still unclear as to what degree of mobility will return,” the statement added.

“We know that Stan will recover to lead us again up that mountain.”

If you wish to make a contribution to Yee's recovery, you can visit the GoFundMe page.
