Coquitlam residents who receive city pickup can leave their extra yard waste on the curbside starting next week.
From Monday, Oct. 21, until Nov. 28, residents can put out their additional clippings — at no cost — on their regular collection days.
The program is offered twice a year to help residents clear away their surplus green trimmings; each year, the municipality hauls away more than 450 tonnes of yard waste through the initiative.
Here’s what to do:
- Place the clipped branches, fallen leaves and pruned plants in an old trash can, kraft paper bags or bundles labeled with “Yard Trimmings” stickers (the stickers can be picked up for free at the engineering counter at Coquitlam City Hall, at the Town Centre recycling depot or at a Coquitlam library branch).
- Put the extra yard waste out by 7:30 a.m. on collection day (the collection truck is different from the green waste truck).
- Make sure branches are tied in bundles no longer than three feet in length and less than three inches in diameter.
- Have each bag, can or bundle under 44 pounds.
- Remove sod, rocks, soil and plastic bags, as well as food scraps.
- Ensure bags, cans and bundles are off the sidewalk and, if raining, are covered.
