You can shop for handmade holiday gifts — and help those in need — through an annual food drive at PoMoArts this fall.
For the second year in a row, the Port Moody arts facility on St Johns Street is asking for donations to support a non-profit group that feeds families in the Tri-Cities.
Last year's launch brought in more than $1,300 for the SHARE Family and Community Services' food bank.
But this year, PoMoArts is giving shoppers the opportunity to add a donation at the till when purchases are made through its 10th annual Winter Treasures, a curated artist winter market that runs at PoMoArts from Nov. 9 to Dec. 20, 2023.
The artisan market is open weekdays from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; the opening reception is on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.
Deanna Kayne, PoMoArts executive director, told the Tri-City News that this year's fundraiser is for the Immigrant Link Centre Society, a volunteer-run group that distributes unsold food to new Canadians.
Since it started, the largest food rescue organization in B.C. has fed more than 3,500 people in the Lower Mainland; 13 of its 23 distribution sites are in the Tri-Cities.
Last year, it handed out more than one million kilograms of unsold food.
"The demand on their services is higher than their capacity to deliver," Kayne said.
"Your support will make more meals possible this holiday season and all year round."
