If you live or work in south Port Coquitlam, be ready to hear a blast on Thursday morning.
Sofina Foods, the meat-processing plant at 1910 Kingsway Ave., will sound its emergency siren on Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. as part of the company's annual safety drill.
The blare will be a series of short audible tests — lasting about five seconds each.
The loud alarm is used by Sofina if there is an ammonia spill in the plant.
"Annual testing is done to ensure the siren is functioning correctly and is part of our safety and emergency preparedness plans," a spokesperson said in a news release to the Tri-City News.
If there were an emergency, the City of Port Coquitlam also would advise residents by text through its Alertable app.
To download the mobile app, go to the App Store (Apple) or Google Play. Alternatively, sign up through alertable.ca and choose "Port Coquitlam" to get text alerts for municipal emergencies.
For questions about the Sofina testing, you can send an email [email protected].
