Consider another commute or give yourself extra time on the road as a major Tri-Cities intersection is set to be closed for several hours tomorrow (April 26).

Delays are expected on and off through Coquitlam's Pinetree Way and Barnet Highway (7A) for six hours on Wednesday.

In a statement, the city said crews will be conducting utility maintenance that requires underground work at the intersection between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

It's not clear for how long each delay will last or which direction will be impacted the most.

As a result, regional commuters that need to use Pinetree and 7A to plan an alternate route to avoid significant delays or give themselves ample time in travelling from point from 'A' to 'B.'

Meanwhile, Coquitlam is set to begin construction of a new 550-metre multi-use pathway just east of the intersection.

The city said, for the next two months, crews will be working on the north side of Lougheed Highway westbound between Westwood Street and Pinetree Way.

The project is set to take place weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on a weather dependent basis.

Commuters and cyclists can expect minor delays as the westbound curb lane will be closed throughout the construction, and detours will be set up for when crews work in the area of Lougheed and Ponderosa Street.
