A poor scaffolding system — and false information — has led to a significant fine for a Metro Vancouver construction firm while working at a Port Coquitlam home.

A Deep Stucco Ltd. was fined nearly $5,000 for setting up work platforms with damaged planks, according to a public report recently published by WorkSafeBC.

The provincial watchdog explained the Surrey company also "knowingly provided" false information to a WorkSafeBC officer that had inspected the site.

The inspector's findings included missing cross braces from A Deep Stucco's scaffold and damaged planks on its work platforms.

This "repeated violation" led to a stop-use order, the report stated. It did not say, however, if anyone was injured or if an incident occurred during the stucco installation.

"In addition, the firm did not provide accurate information about who was doing the stucco work," WorkSafeBC added.

A Deep Stucco was issued an exact fine of $4,583.98 for the violation with May 28 as the imposition date.

Stucco is a cement-like product used for the exterior of a home. It's applied wet and hardens as a dense solid, usually in multiple layers during construction.
