Darlene Daigle, the Coquitlam woman on trial for stabbing her ex-boyfriend to death more than three years, has been found guilty.
The 42-year-old has been in custody after the body of Peter Markus was found inside a trailer at the Wildwood Mobile Park on Cayer Street on Jan. 4, 2010. Daigle was taken into custody 18 days later.
Last Thursday, a jury found her guilty of second-degree murder in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster in the killing of the 39-year-old.
Investigators said that the two had recently ended a relationship and that police had visited the home on several occasions the previous summer.
"Investigators worked extremely hard to collect and bring all the evidence forward resulting in this conviction," said RCMP Cpl. Dominic Duchesneau. "This is a very successful outcome to a tragic and unnecessary death. Domestic violence cannot and will not be tolerated."
A person who lived in the Brunette Avenue neighbourhood at the time of the incident said the victim was a "quiet guy" who worked as a carpet layer.
Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 24.
