Coquitlam’s Dante Fabbro will be joining another Tri-Cities’ NHLer on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Columbus claimed Fabbro after the Nashville Predators put the 26-year-old defenseman on waivers Saturday.
Blue Jackets’ general manager Don Waddell said on the team’s website Fabbro “is a puck-moving defenseman that can play in all situations and adds mobility and depth to our backend."
Ironically, Fabbro’s arrival in Columbus comes just as Port Moody’s Kent Johnson has been put on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 17.
The 22-year-old forward is in his third season with the Blue Jackets. He has missed the team’s last nine games after suffering an upper body injury in a game against the Buffalo Sabres Oct. 17.
Johnson, who was picked by Columbus fifth overall in the 2021 NHL draft, had two goals and three assists in five games before he was hurt. In 135 total games with the team, he has 20 goals and 64 points.
In claiming Fabbro, the Blue Jackets will pick up the balance of his one-year, $2.5 million contract that he signed with the Predators last March.
