Long time youth advocate Jerome Bouvier has put his life story into a book in the hopes of inspiring others.
Unbreakable, the Power of the Human Spirit tells the story of Bouvier, executive director of ACCESS Youth Outreach Services, and how he came to be in a wheelchair, directing one of the Tri-Cities' most important youth-supporting organizations.
In his book, Bouvier tells the story of how he was waterskiing in Sacramento while high on cocaine when he crashed into the rocks, crushing his spine in the accident. Up until then, Bouvier had been working in the horse racing industry and experimenting with drugs.
The accident changed his life forever, and according to Bouvier, the book has been a project of 10 years while he worked with youth in the organization formerly known as the PoCoMo Youth Services Society.
Bouvier has won numerous acknowledgements for his work, including the 2011 Courage to Come Back Award.
The book will be launched on Thursday, July 24 at the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver in the Unlisted Lounge. In addition to a question period and discussions, there will be a book signing opportunity.
