Are you missing some money?
A large amount of cash — amounting to thousands of dollars — has been found, and Coquitlam RCMP are looking for the rightful owners.
Police were alerted to the cash found in two separate incidents: one at IKEA in January and another last week at Value Village in Coquitlam.
And they hope by sharing some of the details, the owners will step forward and claim the cash.
The most recent incident took place last week, according to Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson Const. Deanna Law.
Last Friday, (May 28), workers found that a large amount of cash had been donated to Value Village, located at 2739 Barnet Hwy. The money was dropped off among other items sometime the week prior. “A customer service representative found the large sum of cash inside the donation after it was dropped off and immediately called police,” she said.
To reclaim the cash, someone has to be able to answer correctly a series of questions, such as the denominations, and how or in what the money was donated.
CLAIMANTS WILL HAVE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS
In another incident, dating back to Jan. 19, someone went to the Ikea at 1000 Lougheed Hwy. in Coquitlam, and dropped a large sum of cash.
The money was immediately turned in by the person who found it.
In this case, the owner will also need to answer specific questions — such as the amount, denominations, and what the cash was being carried in — so police can confirm they are returning the cash to the correct individual.
• To reach the investigator and claim the found cash from Jan. 19, call the Coquitlam RCMP non-emergency number at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2021-1705.
• To reach the investigator and claim the found cash from May 28, call the same number and quote file number 2021-14042.
The public is reminded to call the RCMP if they lose a large amount of money. “There is no reason to feel uncomfortable,” noted Law. “Police simply would like to get the money back to the rightful owner.”
