Fraser Health has notified a Coquitlam swim club about a COVID-19 exposure that may have occurred during a late afternoon practice.

The exposure notice sent out to parents on Wednesday (Dec. 15) said swimmers may have been exposed to the virus on Dec. 8 during development practice from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. at the pool in the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.

Families receiving the notice are asked to self-isolate or self-monitor depending on how many days since their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Self-monitoring for symptoms for 14 days from the date of exposure is required if the individual had at least one dose more than 21 days ago.

Those who are not vaccinated or only received their shot less than 21 days ago must self-isolate for 10 days from the date of exposure and monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days from when they were at the pool at that time.

During the period of self-isolation, individuals must continue to monitor for symptoms, stay at home, stay away from others in the home, use a separate bathroom if possible and not go to transit, work, school or shopping, among other restrictions noted in the letter.

Exercising outdoors is permitted with two metres of distance from others.

Self-monitoring means monitoring for COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing or feeling unwell.

The Sharks’ exposure notice was shared via the BC School Covid Tracker website, which has been monitoring school exposures during the pandemic.

The Tri-City News has reached out to the Coquitlam Sharks Aquatic Club for more information.

The exposure comes as the Tri-Cities has seen a spike in COVID-19 transmissible capability and there have been more COVID-19 cases throughout the province.

Meanwhile, Fraser Health has opened more dates for a pop-up clinic at Douglas College.

The additional dates are Saturday (Dec. 18) and Monday (Dec. 20).

As many as 44 cases of the new Omicron variant have been identified in B.C., mostly in people who have recently travelled.
