Coquitlam Adanacs forward Davidy Charney had a goal and three assists in the team's 17-7 win over the PoCo Saints Sunday at the Minto Cup junior national lacrosse championships, being played at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.

The Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs outscored the PoCo Saints 9-1 in the third period to roll to a 17-7 win in a renewal of their crosstown rivalry Sunday at the Minto Cup junior national lacrosse championship at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.

The result was a continuation of Coquitlam’s dominating performance in the final game of the BC Junior A Lacrosse League final when the Adanacs thumped the Saints 18-8 to sweep their best-of-five series in three straight games.

Both teams entered their Minto Cup rematch coming off wins in their opening games of the tournament on Saturday.

After finishing the first period tied 2-2, PoCo actually had a 6-4 lead with 5:13 left to play in the second.

But an unassisted goal by Jaxon Fridge 27 seconds later launched Coquitlam on a 13-goal run that didn’t end until the Saints’ Anahalihs Doxtato ended the carnage with 1:12 remaining in the third period.

Along the way Jaxon Dillon scored four times for the Adanacs and Noah Manning added two more goals to the one he’d scored earlier in the second period.

Silas Richmond had four goals to lead all PoCo scorers.

Coquitlam outshot the Saints 51-39.

The Adanacs’ win sets them on a direct path to the Minto Cup final if they beat the Orangeville Northmen in Monday’s late game that begins at 7 p.m.

The Northmen beat the Okotoks Raiders 13-6 in Sunday’s earlier game to improve its record to one win and one loss while the Raiders have yet to win in its two games.

The top team in round-robin play earns an automatic berth in the best-of-three championship finale while the teams that finish second and third will play a sudden-death semi-final Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

All games are being played at Poirier.
