A neighbourhood mall is soon to rise at the corner of Coast Meridian and David Avenue in Coquitlam, providing a place for Burke Mountain residents to go to get a quart of milk, a sandwich and a latte.

Construction is now underway for the 14,000-square-foot, two-storey mall, which will provide a convenience store, a sandwich restaurant, a coffee shop, a kindergarten and office space when it opens in early 2013.

Meridian Crossing will feature contemporary Westcoast architecture with confirmed tenants including 7-Eleven, Subway, dentist Dr. Tom Lee and cefa (Core Education & Fine Arts) Junior Kindergarten.

In a press release, Ted Ayerst, senior vice-president of Wesbild, said Meridian Crossing will be a key gathering place for Burke Mountain residents.

Occupying almost the whole top floor, cefa will provide care for chidren aged one to five in subjects such reading and math, and fine arts, such as music and yoga.

Also opening up in Meridian Crossing will be the locally-owned and operated Caffé Divano. This will be Caffé Divano's fourth location.

Partington Creek down the road will eventually have a village centre and is still being planned.
