Students are being kept inside at Hillcrest middle school in Coquitlam as firefighters work to clean up a minor chemical spill that occurred Thursday morning.
Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Michael McLaughlin said hold-and-secure protocols were in place, meaning no one can go in or out of the building.
"It is a fairly minor spill," he told The Tri-City News. "As a result, we are going to make sure the kids stay inside."
McLaughlin said the chemical likely spilled from a vehicle at around 9:20 a.m. But he noted that it was not commercial grade quantities and would likely be cleaned up later this morning.
We are currently assisting the Coquitlam Fire Department with a hold and secure at Hillcrest Middle School as they clean up a minor chemical spill outside the school.
