It’s time for Port Moody residents to clean out their clutter. Or maybe add some more.
The city is hosting its annual city-wide spring garage sale on April 26.
The event is an opportunity for residents to lighten the load of items in their garages, basements, closets and attics while taking advantage of a critical mass or like-minded residents doing the same to attract potential customers from far and wide.
Participants can register their sale by 5 p.m., April 17, to have it advertised on Port Moody’s website at no cost. All homes must be within city limits.
Last year’s event attracted more than 70 households.
According to the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada, 85 per cent of Canadians participate in the second-hand economy of buying and selling goods worth more than $28 billion annually.
But the Canada Safety Council cautions bargain hunters must proceed warily, especially for items like car seats, strollers, cribs, walkers and baby barriers, which may no longer meet current safety standards.
“Getting something potentially dangerous to you, your family and others is not worth the savings,” said a safety council bulletin that advises buyers and sellers should be careful about electrical appliances as well.
