Students and staff at Gleneagle Secondary in Coquitlam are safe after the district temporarily moved them to nearby Scott Creek Middle.

Gleneagle Secondary principal Gary Conley forwarded this letter to parents this afternoon:

Good afternoon,

As you are likely aware, this morning the school received an anonymous phone call as we started period 1.

As a precaution, the school was evacuated by police while the RCMP conducted a site assessment in response to the call.

Upon completion of the investigation, students and staff were permitted to return to the building in period 2.

It is disheartening that making false reports to engage police and disrupt the public is some person’s idea of a prank. I can assure you the police are investigating this illegal action.

On behalf of our entire staff, we thank our students who once again demonstrated a level of maturity and teamwork that greatly assisted our management of this morning’s event.

I’d also like to thank our staff, the RCMP and our district staff for their calm, caring and coordinated response to this unexpected and worrisome incident.

Speaking as a parent, I empathize with the angst this morning’s situation created for our parents and caregivers. I thank you for your trust and patience as we addressed this safety concern.

With appreciation,

Glen Conley

Principal

"All students and staff are safe," he said.

"Out of an abundance of caution, students will be moved to Scott Creek Middle while RCMP sweep the property. As always, we appreciate the assistance of the RCMP and we expect normal operations to resume as soon as possible."
