Starbucks at Como Lake Village is temporarily closed for renovations.

This story has been updated with information provided by the company.

The bittersweet smell of freshly roasted coffee beans has been replaced by renovation dust at a popular Coquitlam Starbucks.

While the doors are open at the Como Lake Village Starbucks, 1980A Como Lake Rd., construction workers are busy in the building — not baristas.

The renovation is expected to cost about $250,000, according to City of Coquitlam building permit information.

Some plumbing work is taking place and, after the store is put back together, coffee and other drinks and food will be served once again.

A spokesperson for the company said the coffee shop should re-open in early April.

Among the improvements will be outdoor patio seating, and improved beverage and hand-off stations to respond to the increasing demands and changing needs of customers, such as for Mobile Order & Pay.

Starbucks has been making changes to its business as part of an ongoing update to Starbucks to reflect changing customer habits since the pandemic with more people using the Starbucks app to order coffee for pick up.

A recent update to a Starbucks location in New Westminster resulted in lighter decor, fewer seats and more space, as well as a pick-up area for mobile orders.

7-Eleven to re-open tomorrow

The Como Lake Village Starbucks renovation is not the only store renovation taking place in Coquitlam.

A 7-Eleven at 1198 Lansdowne St., in Eagle Ridge Plaza, has been closed for a few weeks; however, it re-opens tomorrow (Feb. 28) at noon, according to the website.

Meanwhile, at Coquitlam Centre, H&M is temporarily closed for a $1.3-million store renovation.

In a statement, the company told the Tri-City News that H&M is "constantly looking at our store portfolio and looking at stores that may be older to update and renovate" with the goal of adapting to "changing customer behaviour."
