More than 1,300 students, staff and teachers at Coquitlam's Dr. Charles Best secondary ran or walked through Mundy Park Thursday as part of the annual Terry Fox School Run.
The event, held a week before the Terry Fox Foundation's National School Run Day on Sept. 27, saw Bill Vigars - Fox's publicist during his Marathon of Hope - speak to the assembly about the Port Coquitlam hero's 1980 journey to raise money for cancer research.
Vigars said Fox, who trained for his cross-country adventure in the Tri-Cities including at the Best sports field, was embarrassed by the glory but was proud to be named Canadian Athlete of the Year before he died in 1981 at the age of 22.
