A Surrey woman is suing a Surrey retirement home after she was allegedly hit by a ceiling fan.
In a notice of civil claim filed in B.C. Supreme Court, Sherrie Louise Warfied alleges a repaired fan flew off the ceiling, striking and injuring her in June 2020.
She alleges the repair work was done by Amos Ferguson Manor manager William Callahan. The manor is operated by the Amos Gordon Ferguson Memorial Society, the claim said.
According to court documents, Warfield suffered neck, shoulder and head injuries. She also claims she has had headaches and a concussion, is emotionally upset, and has had problems with sleep and fatigue.
The claim asserts Warfield could be more susceptible to future injuries and degenerative changes as a result of the incident.
Warfield alleges the defendants were negligent in ensuring the fan was properly secured and inspected.
She is seeking damages, special damages and costs, including health-care expenses.
