Do you have the moves that can step up, stomp the yard and kick it up to wow a crowd?
Coquitlam residents of all ages may be given that chance as the city gears up to host its Culture Days program beginning this weekend.
A street dance battle is set to take the TD Community Plaza stage in Town Centre Park — in an effort to follow current COVID-19 health and safety protocols — with six internationally recognized performers aimed to bring energy, tenacity and enthusiasm.
The theme of this year's event "Re:Imagine" is set to encourage positivity and tangible change in a time of difficulty.
After battling in several different dances, the group will bring in audience participation in teaching them fundamental moves in hip-hop, 'litefeet' and 'tutting' — a dance that requires intricate hand, arm and finger movements.
Performers include:
- Natasha Gorrie and Hannah Henney
- Members of the Diamonds in the Rough crew (Vancouver)
- Kevin 'Shazam' Li
- Vance Driver
- Anwar Ali
- Rajan 'Illest' Sandhu
The free program is scheduled for Sunday (Sept. 26) from 2 to 4 p.m., rain or shine, with DJ Ice B at the turntables.
Pre-registration is not required.
