Until Dec. 31, the Tri-City News looks back on some of our favourite photos from 2024.

Each day, we are posting one image along with commentary about what it took to get that photo and the story it conveys.

Coquitlam Fire/Rescue’s annual junior firefighter program during March break always gets circled on my calendar.

It’s a fun and intense afternoon of documenting kids getting out of their comfort zones and testing their limits in unfamiliar situations.

Usually the demands of deadlines for our former print edition meant joining them on a Thursday afternoon, when they would be learning high angle rescue techniques from the training tower at the Town Centre hall.

No longer encumbered by those, I thought I’d try something different this year and headed to Jaws of Life training at the Mariner station.

While the confines were tight and you had to always be mindful of where you were stepping, I thought it would be interesting to try to get a victim’s eye view of their work.
