Members of the Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast peloton react as Coquitlam RCMP Const. Jenifer Barker gets her head shaved by Const. James Eastwood of the Ridge Meadows RCMP during a pitstop in Coquitlam.

Until Dec. 31, the Tri-City News looks back on some of our favourite photos from 2024.

Each day, we are posting one image along with commentary about what it took to get that photo and the story it conveys.

Often the best photo isn’t the most obvious photo.

Head shavings can make for fun photo opportunities.

When Coquitlam RCMP notified us one of its civilian members would be getting her head shaved in support of the annual Cops for Cancer fundraising effort when its peloton of bike riders rolled into town last September, we knew a good photo could be had.

Among the frames I shot of the cyclists arriving, resting, fuelling up and the lucky volunteer sacrificing her locks, I stepped back a moment and focused on the reaction of the riders as they watched a civilian member lose her hair to the razor.
