Until Dec. 31, the Tri-City News looks back on some of our favourite photos from 2024.
Each day, we are posting one image along with commentary about what it took to get that photo and the story it conveys.
Over the years of covering Coquitlam RCMP’s annual Junior Mounties camp up at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex, I’ve shot the kids conducting traffic stops, investigating crime scenes and navigating obstacle courses.
This was the first year I was present for drill instruction.
Designed to replicate some of the discipline real Mounties learn while at Depot in Saskatchewan, the kids were grouped by the colours of their t-shirts and put their paces by baton-wielding drill sergeants, often with mixed success.
Early on in the time I was there, I noticed kids who didn’t quite fall into line had to do push ups, so I kept an eye on the various groups to anticipate who might have the biggest problem fulfilling the sergeants expectation then positioning myself to be ready when the order to get down to the floor came.
