Several dozen Tri-Cities organizations that focus on social services for the region have earned a financial boost from the province this week.

A total of 46 groups in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra were unveiled Thursday (July 6) in the latest round of B.C. Community Gaming Grants, combining for a seven-figure endowment.

The amount of $1,142,375 is set to help pay for programming that enhances the quality of life for local residents — both young and old.

This is especially for under-served families, youth and seniors, while also providing public outreach and education, and addressing equity issues.

"Non-profit organizations do such important work to keep our communities afloat, and it's crucial that as a government, we support those groups as much as we possibly can through funding like Community Gaming Grants," said Port Moody–Coquitlam MLA Rick Glumac in a release.

"Whether it's providing community programs for youth and seniors like Societe Place Maillardville Society does, or providing accessible healthy meals to new immigrants like they do at Immigrant Link Centre Society, everyone wins when non-profits are properly funded and supported," added Coquitlam–Maillardville MLA Selina Robinson in the same statement.

"Community Gaming Grants directly help all corners of every community, and it's incredible to see the reach they have."

The Tri-Cities' cut is from a $61-million pie for human and social services grants.

The money comes from a grand total of $140 million downstreamed each year from Victoria to non-profits across the province in hopes of making essential services more accessible.
